Before you are about to spend your hard earned money paying for a service like dental work, accounting, home improvements, house cleaning, landscaping or any other expensive work, you may find yourself scouring the internet for reviews of prospective companies. Before you turn your hard earned money over to someone, hoping that the work you need done will be done well, definitely find recommendations online.

Here are some things to look for in a company review website:

Use a Source Where Reviews Are Controlled and Monitored - Some websites where anyone can post a review are easily manipulated by the companies being reviewed. They might pay people to post their positive reviews or post them themselves. What's important is finding a source where a review site is carefully monitored to prevent fraudulent reviews.

Find a Source With Heavy Traffic - The more reviews you can find from one site, the better you can feel that even if some of the reviews are fraudulent, most of them are probably accurate, which will help you make a better decision.

Check With The BBB - If you are unsure about a companies reputation you can check with the Better Business Bureau for any fraudulent or suspicious activity within the company. Customers frequently use the BBB to post complaints about certain companies. Although, since the site is mainly for complaints, it may give you an overly negative view about a company if the company is mainstream.

Balanced Reviews Are Better - It helps if you can find a source where the company has had a chance to respond to any negative reviews. There are always two sides to a story.
